THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT PLAYED IN THE MPC IN 2008. WE LOOK
FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE IN THE 2009 SEASON!
MPC E4 - BATTLEGROUND
(September 27th, 2008) Event Review
What a great day to play paintball. The event began with
the gates opening at 6:00 am. The field staff was quick to get the field set
up for the teams and the air station up and running. With the morning set-up
completed, team registration began around 7:00 AM. After signing in, most
teams purchased paintballs. Fortunately for all MPC players, the folks at
Nelson, Procaps, & JT came through big time on the paint. With three
different grades from our three different paint sponsors available, all
players could find the paint that best fit their marker and playing style. To
further assist players, one bag of each type of paint for the event was made
available to the teams to test and match to their barrels. The air station was
set up and pumping all day long. All players received fills at over 4000 PSI
all day long, including through the morning rush. It doesn’t get any better
than that. It was sunny all day long and about 70 degrees.
For the event, we utilized two fields. The fields that
were set up for the event played very fast, and because of this and the
organization of our referees, we seemed to cruise through prelims. As has
become standard for an MPC event, the referee crew did a great job at keeping
the field in tiptop shape. In between games all referees could be seen wiping
down bunkers and filling them as needed. The referees were very proactive.
They were constantly checking players, and making quick calls. One of the
players commented that the referees were moving more than the players!
The general
feel of the event was very laid back. I had many players comment on how
relaxed and organized everything was. With five teams in the open division,
nine teams in the rookie division, and three teams in the young guns division,
the event was very competitive.
After prelims in the open division, the top two open
teams would play a best two of three (based off points) to see who would be
taking home 1st place honors. In the end, Shameless came out on top
taking home 5 NXT Shockers, with Seattle CDR taking home second place.
The rookie division ended up with nine teams. The top
four teams after prelims from this division moved on to play in single round
robin to see who would take home the prizes. The top four teams after prelims
were Malicious Intent, Affliction, CDR Kids, and Killa Krew. Coming out on top
was Malicious Intent, with Affliction in 2nd, CDR Kids in third,
and Killa Krew in fourth.
The young guns teams played 8 games each, with Notorious
coming out on top, NW Devastation 2 taking home second place, and NW
Devastation taking home third. This division showed some amazing competition.
I want to personally thank all of the parents that made it possible for these
guys to play. It seemed like there was a parent on-site for every kid and they
encouraged all players. Again, thanks to the parents that came out.
The awards ceremony at this event was amazing. I have yet
to go to an event where over 75% of the event participants stuck around for
the awards ceremony. Also, the MPC would like to thank BW Dunn of Procaps
Direct for ordering pizza for everyone that stuck around. With this event
being the final event of the year, it was time for us at the MPC to sit down
and crunch some numbers. After four events, and taking home 70 cases of
paintballs for winning the overall for the Open division, Notorious came out
on top for the year. In the Rookie division, and also taking home 70 cases of
paintballs was Malicious Intent. In the Young Guns division, taking home 40
cases of paintballs was NW Devastation. We at the MPC believe highly in good
sportsmanship, and would like to thank NW Devastation, who took home an
additional 30 cases of paintballs for winning the sportsmanship award for the
year, as voted by the teams that played in the events.
Well, another great year has been concluded here in the
Northwest and we highly encourage everyone to remember to support your local
stores and fields. Without them, and the companies that are support the events
here in the Northwest, paintball as we know it would not exist.
